Today Microsoft Released the Yammer Integration for CRM 2011.
Yammer is a social media platform which is private and secure for a single company.
Employees can share ideas, organize teams, ask questions to the whole company and many many more. More or less it’s a kind of Facebook for companies.
Ok so we can see colleagues posts and activities on the yammer platform. But in CRM you have Activity Feeds for that right? That’s true but not all of you’re colleagues are users in CRM, so they can’t see those Activity Feeds. And off course Yammer will bring some extra benefits, event sharing, Mobile Apps, …
So what is this Integration?
Basically it’s an alternative for the activity feeds and you will have to choose as well.
You can’t use Activity Feeds together with Yammer, but you will have the configuration and UI of the Activity Feeds. But in the back it connects with Yammer and saves all the post there.
What you need to start is a Yammer Enterprise Subscription. You can find pricing on the yammer website. You can’t use the free edition for the integration.
Keep in mind if you configure Yammer in CRM, you can’t undo it. It’s a permanent configuration.
This configuration can be found in the settings group in administration. The last option is “Yammer Configuration”.
You will see some steps, first one connect to Yammer. Make sure you have admin rights on Yammer. Second one is selecting a group on Yammer to post to.
Third one select the security level.
Once this is done. You can do the post configurations like you did for Activity Feeds.
Ok that’s nice, but are there limitations?
Yes there are 2.
- Only System Posts appear on the iPad. If you create own posts it won’t be visible on the iPad.
- And the Yammer widget is only supported in English US.
